Exergy: A digital insurance solution for the cloud

With global cloud providers investing into data-centres in South Africa, financial service providers are re-examining how best to approach their transition to this environment. For its part, SilverBridge is repositioning its Exergy insurance solution as a digital suite of products that can either be consumed on a modular basis or as part of an integrated whole.

“Looking at the future of the local market, cloud-based solutions are becoming a strategic priority. By leveraging our well-established partnership with Microsoft, we have shifted our approach to this environment and are expanding our solutions with new components. This is done by either building ourselves, using functionality available on the Microsoft platform, or working with our partners,” says Lee Kuyper, COO at SilverBridge.

Traditionally, financial services customers have been hesitant to go the cloud route due to concerns around the security of sensitive financial data and regulatory issues pertaining to data sovereignty. With the arrival of the Microsoft datacentres in the country, these concerns have been largely addressed and started to ease. This is resulting in increased comfort levels in exploring the value that cloud solutions have to offer.

“We’ve been having cloud discussion with clients for a while. Some have moved prior to the arrival of the data-centres whilst others have been more cautious. But the past two years have seen a massive shift in attitude from insurers with everyone now considering how to gain benefit in some way,” says Kuyper.

This changing focus is also reflected in how SilverBridge has approached the evolution of Exergy.

“The real value and power of the Microsoft Azure cloud is not just moving workloads to the cloud but leveraging what the platform has to offer. SilverBridge has moved the Exergy development environment into the cloud as it provides us with more innovative ways of creating and enhancing our software. For clients, this also means that instead of upgrading annually, we are moving to a place where the value created by our development teams is rolled out regularly and in smaller increments,” concludes, Kuyper.

Ultimately, the cloud is ushering in exciting opportunities to innovate using more sophisticated tools and platforms.

Task scheduler

This page contains the standard operating procedure in respect of the set up of the task scheduler in Exergy2Go

Using the task scheduler

The Task Scheduler is a scheduling service that may be used to schedule different events in Exergy. This will enhance the automation components used during the processing of tasks
The automation of this process firstly requires that the Service Console be set up and thereafter a scheduling wizard be used in Exergy to schedule tasks accordingly.
The scheduling service should be set up and started by the Deployment/Release Manager Prior to any execution of tasks by means of the Task Manager.
The operations administrator should indicate how often the scheduling service should execute the scheduled tasks. The scheduling service will only execute one task at a time
The following are some of the rules to be defined in the scheduler:

  • the type of task to be scheduled
  • actual task to be scheduled
  • the user name and password of the user under whose name the task should run
  • the time at which the run should start as well as the frequency of execution; e.g.
      • Minutes
      • Hours
      • Days
      • Weeks
      • Month
  • the description and history entry settings for each scheduled task may be stored if required

Once this service is successfully started, the tasks that must be automated; previously set up in Task Manager must now be scheduled via the Task scheduling wizard
It is important to note that when daily tasks are scheduled via the Task Scheduling Service; these tasks will automatically be executed on every day during a normal week; this is including weekends.
For any additional information on the installation of the scheduling service; refer to the On-Line Help in Exergy

  • Select the specific task to be scheduled from the list and select the ‘Next’ button:

  • Select either the credentials of the user who is currently logged on to Exergy, or log in as another user.
  • Where an alternative user’s credentials are used, enter the user name and password on the ‘Username’ and ‘Password‘ fields to specify under which user’s name the task should run.
  • It is recommended that a user classified as a “Service Account” be used, as the password does not change regularly.

Note: The User Name and password credentials that are recognized here is the Windows logon details.

  • Select the Starting Date, Time and Frequency and if a specific user is to be notified upon completion of the scheduled task
  • The task can be scheduled to run at intervals set Minute’s, Hour’s, Day’s, Week’s and Months.

When a user is selected to be notified upon completion of the scheduled task; all users registered on the database are displayed in the list. The system will make use of the email that was specified by the System Administrator when he/she was originally set up. Where no email address is present, no email will be sent. Email addresses should be checked by the System Administrator in the User Access module

Weekly settings will allow for any day of the week as well as multiple days within a week to be selected

Various monthly settings are available where the Life Company may select the most suitable option as shown below:

  • A schedule description is entered so that the history information may be stored for however long it may be required
  • Select the ‘Finish’ button to complete the scheduling
  • Select the “Number of History Entries to keep”
